Album Review: Legion Of The Damned “Ravenous Plague”

Legion of the Damned – Ravenous Plague
                     Release Date – January 3, 2014

Legion of the Damned is a thrash metal/death metal band from the Netherlands. This was my first introduction to the band, the upcoming album titled Ravenous Plague will be hitting stores on January 3rd, 2014.

This album paints a picture of a world on the edge of apocalypse; Twan van Geel’s guitar work in “Howling for Armageddon“, “Mountain Wolves Under a Crescent Moon” and “Morbid Death” really bring to light the intensity of their story.

The intro titled The Apocalyptic Surge is a dark instrumental and would find a perfect home in a zombie/horror film as the villain is on the hunt for his next victim. Also if you expect this to set the tone for the whole album, you are desperately mistaken; this is just the calm before the storm.

One of the stand out tracks for me is Doom Priest; it starts out very slow and melodic, building up to some catchy riffs and guttural vocals.

Another notable mention is Summon All Hate. It’s a heavy hitting, head banging track that I could envision screaming along to at a live show.
Strike of the Apocalypse displays the drumming talent of Erik Fleuren, and an excellent way to end out the album.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ravenous Plague and recommend it to fans of the death metal genre.

Rating: 4/5
